About this course

In today's technologically-driven market, it's relatively easy to commission custom software. But is the user interface aesthetically appealing? Is it accessible and easy to use? Is the layout intelligent and is it efficient? These are the types of questions UX & UI design aims to address. It doesn't just look at interface functionality, but at human psychology. It aims to understand how we respond to different interface designs, with the goal of creating ever more intuitive and pleasing user experiences.

If User Experience (UX) is fundamentally how an individual feels when using or interacting with a product, UX design is the process that most design teams use in order to create products that are relevant to its users and provide meaningful experiences. The design process not only focuses on a product’s usability, it also includes the integration of branding, design and user function to create a human-centered product.

UX is important because it tries to put the needs of the user first and aligns the user’s goals with those of a client. A UX designer considers why a user would adopt a specific product and then considers how to design this product in an accessible and aesthetically pleasing way. If done correctly, users will have a positive experience and achieve their goals.

In this course, students will develop an understanding of the UX Design process, the value of UX Design and be introduced to basic terminology & research methods and User interface design. The goal is to recognize the importance of designing interactive experiences that are ultimately human-centered. Students will also learn how to identify the users, get an introduction to basic research methods used to identify user needs and pain-points.

This course will also teach students how to interpret useful user feedback and create basic wireframes prototypes, which can be presented to stakeholders during the design process. They will learn how to use evidence collected from research, to iteratively brainstorm ideas and solutions using hand-drawn sketches and digital design tools.
